Cuckfield Baptist Chapel -
Charles Meloy with LCE Architects
The congregation has outgrown its present chapel and a new facility is needed to accommodate a varied programme of events the Baptists hold.
The new Chapel is a free standing building in the grounds of the existing car park. The building is split into two halls linked by two storey’s of support facilities and is sunk into the slope of the site to reduce the impact onto the adjacent properties.
The Chapel is wrapped in an undulating brick wall that varies in height according to the programmatic use of the internal spaces and external site constraints. The roof follows the line of this wall across the site
Although the location of the building lies outside what is considered to be the village boundary the project successfully received Outline Planning Consent prior to a full application being sought.
